Penny Roma, by co-chefs Ryan Pollnow and Thomas McNaughton of Flour + Water Hospitality Group, brings the simplicity and conviviality of traditional Italian dining to San Francisco’s Mission District.
The heart of Penny Roma’s menu is pasta, inspired by tried and true classics from all over Italy. Rotating selections of fish crudi, vegetable-driven antipasti and contorni, and wood-fired secondi are also prominently featured, using seasonal ingredients sourced from our favorite local farms and purveyors, capturing the beauty and bounty of the Bay Area’s offerings.
FWHG Beverage Director Samuel Bogue has created an eccentric yet unpretentious and approachable wine list balancing classic and natural wines from Italy, California and unique growing regions from around the world.
Penny Roma showcases an inviting dining room and indoor/outdoor courtyard with a truly Californian vibe, with dimly lit lights, a large open kitchen and a backdrop of whole-album playlists. We want to throw a dinner party every night and invite you to come share a meal and feel welcome in our space.
Reservations can be made up to 28 days in advance via Resy. We kindly decline reservation requests via phone or email.
Walk-ins are accepted and encouraged! The adjoining Pasta Shop space is available each night for walk-in diners, and we start taking names for our waitlist upon opening our doors at 5:30pm. If we are on a wait when you arrive, please join our friends at Trick Dog next door for a cocktail (spirit-forward or non-alcoholic) while you wait. We will gladly text you when your spot is ready.
We can host parties of up to 10 at our Party Table located inside the adjoining Flour + Water Pasta Shop. We require participation in our Dinner Party Menu and offer two seatings per night. Reservations for this table can only be made through our Resy page.
PRIVATE DINING & EVENTS
SEATED PARTIES OR STANDING RECEPTIONS
Our stand-alone private dining room, The Upstairs, is available to book for lunch and dinner, seven days a week for parties of up 32 seated guests. Parties are required to participate in a family style menu that touches on each section of our menu from the restaurant.
Standing receptions are also available for a more casual experience in the Upstairs, with a capacity of 45 guests. Inquire further for specifics on the two standing reception menu packages we currently offer.
Penny Roma was designed with full restaurant buyouts in mind, featuring an airy courtyard space that is attached to our dining room. We can accommodate 60 guests for a seated dinner and up to 80 guests for a standing reception. The option to add on the adjoining Pasta Shop space can increase the seated capacity by up to 18 guests. Our team will work with you to craft a personalized menu, timeline & more.
Alpine Wine Dinner | Thursday, April 18th – Join us for a five-course meal inspired by the decadent cuisine of Northern Italy by by Chefs Ryan Pollnow and Rachel Orner. Beverage Director Samuel Bogue will be on hand to pour wine pairings from the high altitude regions and speak to the relationship between each menu item and its carefully considered beverage partner.
